The Council on Hemispheric Affairs Hosts “The Caribbean Challenge” Seminar
On July 27, 2017, the Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA) hosted “The Caribbean Challenge,” a seminar focusing on the unique social, cultural, and economic challenges the Caribbean faces. COHA Research Associate Fellow Sophie-Anne Baril presented on the challenges faced by Haitian immigrants to the United States. Next, Winston Dookeran, the Inter-Regional Advisor on Caribbean Affairs at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC) spoke about the Caribbean’s place in today’s globalized world as well as economic issues it must overcome. The seminar was organized by COHA research associates Sheldon Birkett and Liam Timmons.
