COHA’s Dr. Sean Burges Receives Prestigious LASA Award
The Council on Hemispheric Affairs is delighted to announce that COHA’s Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Sean Burges, has just been named recipient of the Latin American Studies Association’s (LASA) 2018 Luciano Tomassini Latin American International Relations Book Award for his book entitled, “Brazil in the World: The International Relations of a South American Giant.” Dr. Burges currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in International Relations with the Australian National University and is the author of numerous works on inter-American affairs for the scholarly and media communities. Dr. Burges has been affiliated with COHA since 1997, where he was a COHA Research Associate who regularly contributed to our organization’s biweekly publication, the Washington Report on the Hemisphere. While at COHA he worked very closely with COHA’s director, Larry Birns. It should be noted that COHA has long been connected to LASA, and that LASA’s first president, Dr. Kalman Silvert, was one of the founding trustees at COHA. The LASA award will be formally presented this May in Barcelona at LASA annual convention, which will include the participation of over 7,000 Latin Americanists from around the world. The Council of Hemispheric Affairs couldn’t be more proud of this singular distinction that has been conveyed to Sean by his professional colleagues throughout the world.
