From 4-5 PM on Tuesday June 17, Mike Summers and Roger Edwards, two members of the Falkland Islands’ Legislative Assembly will be joining us at COHA to discuss a range of issues relating to the Falkland Islands.

COHA Senior Research Fellow W. Alejandro Sanchez will provide introductory remarks.

Mike Summers:

Summers was born in Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, and was raised in Port Howard, the largest town on West Falkland. At the age of eleven, he moved to England to attend boarding school and then Middlesex University where he earned a degree in business. Summers, the former General Manager of the Falkland Islands Development Corporation, is now a Falkland Island politician, and is currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Stanley constituency since his election in 2011 and re-election in 2013. Previously, he was a Member of the Legislative Council from 1996 to 2009. In addition, he was awarded the honor of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Roger Edwards:

Edwards was born in Brinkworth, Wiltshire in the United Kingdom. He is a former member of the British Royal Navy. From 1973 to 1975, Edwards served on HMS Endurance as it patrolled the Falklands territorial waters. He was linked to the Special Air Service during the 1982 Falklands War. Since then he has moved to the Falklands and became a Member of the Falklands Legislative Assembly for the Camp constituency. He was elected in the 2009 general election and re-elected in 2013. Before his position in the Legislative Assembly, he was a Member of the Legislative Council from 2001 to 2005.
